Chicago reporters covering the Democratic Convention in Denver were stunned to witness WGN-Channel 9's Allison Payne cheering and applauding for speakers Wednesday night while she was seated with the Illinois delegation in the Pepsi Center. The veteran newswoman has been co-anchoring convention coverage for the Tribune Co.-owned station.
I guess Allison Payne missed that day in journalism school where they went over the ethics and Canons of TV News Journalism. You know that leasons they teach people in media. Something about the need to remain objective and removed themselves from their emotions. Because TV news reporting is serious business that requires the broadcaster to be always fair, impatial, objective and balance. The role of the reporter is to share the objective facts in order to keep people informed and able to decide for themselves their own opinion. And that reporters should not get emoitionally invested in the subject and persons that they cover in order to be able to give impatial reports to their viewers.
I think Allison was out having lunch with Dan Rather that day in TV News College.
